The Deacons or “servants” are the officers of the church that work alongside the elders, primarily caring for the material needs of the body. The distinction in the offices is seen primarily in Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3. While the elder's primary responsibility is toward the ministry of the word and prayer, the deacons serve in supporting the ministry of the word by attending primarily to the church's resources. Of course, the elders have concerns for the physical needs, and the deacon’s duties are never divorced from ultimate spiritual concerns. All our labors are for the glory of God, the building up of His people in the image of Christ.
Under the oversight of the elders, our deacons have responsibilities in our: benevolence, building, grounds, finances, hospitality, maintenance, meals, member care, missions, security, and technology.
